Athens is the capital city of Greece, a city all its inhabitants love to hate. A city which bears a history of thousands of years, a centre of arts and culture from the ancient times, the place where most of the modern political, social and cultural developments in Greece originate.

Athens is no longer a city that develops wildly, hostile to citizens, guests and the environment. The city is changing, with the creation of new parks, the transformation of streets to roadwalks, the protection of civilians with the discreet increase of police in "sensitive" areas, the regrouping of city services so that they will revolve around the people's best interest. Public Transport is (finally!) in reform, starring the newly built Metro(politan), and throughout the city we can observe an orgasm of construction works of base, the last of them scheduled for completion in 2004 for the Olympic Games.

During the day, Athens offers the visitor a fascinating trip though its three thousand years of history.

One of the two really "ancient" cities of Europe, Athens is full of Museums and places of archaeological interest, whereas there are countless places of recreation - do not forget that the 9th SCGMS takes place May 9-11, a date when the -traditionally warm- weather of Athens will offer many chances of visiting the beachside cafes and the centre (Plaka, Monastiraki, Exarheia).

And if Athens during the day is a modern European city, during the night it becomes a cosmopolitan centre that offers opportunity for a good time whatever your tastes.

The Organising Committee promises to prepare wonderful nights for all participants!
